Aberdeen Climate Action
Film Showings

Demain/Tomorrow Tuesday 21st March [TIME] at Robert Gordon University, Garthdee campus
Demain = an inspirational and life-changing film, about good things which are happening,  which make a real difference, and which you can do too! Guaranteed to inform and energise. (Documentary)
Just Do It = a true and humourous inside look at activism, with its beauty, planning, energy and ingrained moral drivers. Never again will you take the media's depiction of these protectors at face value! (Documentary)

Just Do It, Thursday 23rd March, [TIME] – Montgomery Development and Education Centre (MDEC)  79 Queen St, Aberdeen AB10 1AN ,

Merchants of Doubt, Friday 24th March [TIME] – Vue Cinemas, [ADDRESS[
A gripping expose of how a small group of people and companies manage to misinform governments and millions of people, in so doing cause destruction and death, yet use the same techniques time and again, for Tobacco, Climate Change, Flame Retardants, GMO's, E.M. radiation, etc. If everyone saw this film the world would be a much better place:   few events are as revealing and informative as this film. (Documentary)

Lucas Plan, Saturday 25th March [14:30-16:30] – University of Aberdeen [New Kings 10]
An historical (short) documentary of "The Lucas Plan", a worker-driven exercise to radically improve products of a high tech (weapons) company, in order to improve both the finances and the ethics. First shown in 1978, there is now tremendous scope for this approach, especially topical for Aberdeen in its overdue move away from oil. Film followed by a a selection of speakers and discussion.

Go Green (Robert Gordon University)
GoGreen Community Café – Climate Change Exhibition

A celebration of the GoGreen Strategic Partnership Initiative of 2016/17, highlighting the now established projects aimed at tackling climate change and the lasting impact they expect to generate. Join us for an evening of free food, exhibits, presentations from participants, and discussion.

It will take place in Aberdeen’s first zero waste community café, which aims to raise awareness of food waste and encourage students and the local community to consider ways in which they can improve the environmental impact of their meals. Each Friday, student volunteers prepare hot, locally sourced free meals for the community with minimal environmental impact from the activities and no waste generated for landfills.  The café is the first of its kind in Aberdeen and is one of only a few schemes operating in the country.

At Ruthrieston Community Centre, 532-536 Holburn Street.

Aberdeen Climate Action and Aberdeen CND
Film, Speakers & Discussion
'The challenges of Diversification from Oil, Arms and Nuclear Weapons to Alternative Energy’

The Aberdeen local economy faces a daunting reorganisation task to address transition from a declining fossil fuels industry.  The tremendous engineering and labour skills base means that Aberdeen could continue to prosper in an alternative energy economy but so far there has been no action to safeguard jobs or the local economy in face of drastic economic transition.  A brief film discussing how workers in the arms industry during the 1970s wrote an alternative corporate plan for socially useful production will provide the back drop for speaker presentations and discussion.

Film  (1978) 24 minutes “The Story of the Lucas Aerospace Shop Stewards Alternative Plan”
Speakers: Kate Ramsden Deputy Chair Aberdeen Trades Council tbc; Michael Haywood, co-convenor of the Greens in Aberdeen; Arthur West Chair of CND Scotland; David McGrath engineer & local entrepreneur; Dick Winchester Alternative Energy; Michael Reinsborough Lucas Anniversary Committee; Jelte Harnmeijer, Hutton Institute, community renewables (TBCxxxx)
Discussion

Venue: Room NK10 (auditorium) in New King's Building, Aberdeen University, High Street, Old Aberdeen Campus, Aberdeen AB24 3EB
