Aberdeen Diversification Away From Oil Etc - Forum / Discussion
<Results>

Videos now available from Aberdeen event  ‘Diversification from Oil, Arms and Nuclear to Alternative Energy’ March 25th
The four speakers and audience all watched the 1978 film on the Lucas Plan and then there was discussion.  Here are the four presentations.  This is an example of the type of local community organizing for socially useful production that the http://www.lucasplan.org.uk  is now working to inspire across the UK and Ireland.  Thanks CND and Aberdeen Climate Action plus trade union support for organizing this!

‘Diversification from Oil, Arms and Nuclear to Alternative Energy’

Some cities have suffered more than others from oil price collapse, job-losses and economic downturn.  With it's engineering tradition and skills base Aberdeen could be at the forefront of a dynamic alternative energy economy but instead politicians and business leaders are leaving the city in the tail end of a declining fossil fuel industry with no planning for the future.  Building an alternative economic plan for Aberdeenshire was discussed at the event ‘Diversification from Oil, Arms and Nuclear to Alternative Energy’ on March 25, 2017at the University of Aberdeen.

After a 35 minute film on how the Lucas Aerospace workers in the 1970’s when faced with redundancy put forward a historic plan to stop job losses and convert from arms to socially useful production, there was a panel and audience discussion:
